Clarification
It’s been a while since I wrote last – I’m in a new job position and have been working my tuchas off to get everything in order. That said, I have a moment now and I want to clarify a few points about my last entry – a positive take on the inevitable meaninglessness of life.
To be clear, that entry is not a cry for inaction, nor is it to say that you, as a do-er of things, have no important impact upon the world. I am not suggesting that the things you do are non-consequential, for action is necessary for an individual or a society to continue, and I encourage action, the creation and completion of goals, attempting succeeding and failing, all as part of constant learning – every person should DO because it is by doing that existence continues to be a dynamic existence.
So why do I suggest that these projects we do are wrapped in a robe of meaninglessness? The goal was to take the pressure off. As a member of the creative species called human, it is in our nature to use the tools of creativity, and this might come through words, movement, music, images, ineffable thoughts, and we must know that doing anything so complex as creation is a miracle. Please partake in such a privileged process, and understand that this need to conceptualize the abstract and communicate using metaphorical expression is the simultaneous strength and limitation of our cognition.
What I’m encourage in my previous entry (and am repeating in this one) is to know that whatever inspiration blazes into existence through your presence on this earth will be only a pinprick of light in the cosmos of existence before flickering into the forgotten. And that’s okay. That is perfect. The beauty of a night sky comes from countless specs of light winking from infinity, not from one glorious blaze. In fact, should the sky at night erupt in an engulfing blaze you should be afraid.
I’m saying you should create, but don’t worry about making something that lasts for more than a moment. Love your expression for what it is, not for how it does or does not change the world. You and all the things you do are perfect in an instant of realization. Appreciate that.
As a human, you should Do, Do, Do and Do. Try, explore, play, practice, improve, but take the pressure off. Any result is only a flicker – it is the process of doing that allows beauty to emerge. Settle back and enjoy the process and move toward a result, but don’t worry if that result will remain.
Those are my thoughts for the day. Thanks for reading, and feel free to share if you think it will help a friend. Take care and chat soon.
